Summer Vacation Recap!

SUMMER VACATION 2008 IS IN THE BOOKS!

We enjoyed a totally relaxing and wonderful time enjoying the gorgeous mid-70 degree weather in Carlsbad, California last week. We would start our mornings last week eating breakfast outside. And while we would enjoy our morning cup of Joe, Landon would sip his milk from a coffee mug too! He made us giggle every morning with his "wanna be like Mommy & Daddy" routine! Tuesday, August 12th was spent at Legoland and the new Sea Life Aquarium that opened the day prior to our visit. Landon was more of a lookie-lou than anything else. He was fascinated with the Lego life-size statues and we nearly had to bribe him to get on the rides!

What really knocked his socks off and ours as well was the Aquarium. It was nice, new and really impressive with the collection of fish swimming around lego figurines underwater! Below is a picture of the hands-on exhibits. Or "hands-off" if you were Landon.

We were pretty impressed with the fact that they had a large collection of sting rays and sharks...which, when juxtaposed with Legomen was sort of strange but cool at the same time!

There was a little dome you could stick your head in and look like you were in the fish tank!

After a few hours as the Aquarium we walked back to Legoland, because Landon fell in love with an elephant there. All the acres of activities, rides and everything else and he simply wanted to stare at the elephant made of Legos.

Honestly, we spent no less than 30 minutes with him watching the elephant make it's little noise, raise its trunk, spit water and then do it all over again. We wanted to scream! But, we sat back and watched and tried to find humor in the fascination!

On Wednesday, August 13th, the weather was cloudy and chilly. So we opted for a lazy day shopping and hanging out in our room napping and watching movies. Landon chose a rather unusual approach...but, it was....

Total relaxation...combined with shopping therapy. oummm....let's pause for a moment of silence. :) We also had dinner with Rachel Candelaria and her daughter Corrin, who live in San Diego. She was my producer in El Paso, a bridesmaid and now a dear, dear friend. Sadly, I forgot to take a picture...but take my word...they're looking adorable as ever! :)

On Thursday, August 14th, we hit the beach....Moonlight Beach as its called in Encinidas? It think that's the name. The water was ridiculously cold if you ask me. But, it didn't seem to phase the boys. They were splashing and playing for hours!

Crazy story from the beach. Carlos had Landon on his shoulders and somehow Landon grabbed Carlos' glasses from his face and they FELL IN THE OCEAN!! He signaled to me to come get Landon and started to search the water. (yeah, right...that's what I was thinking too!!) About 5 minutes later, after Carlos says he said a prayer, "Lord, I need these glasses to drive my family home" he looked down AND PICKED UP HIS GLASSES!!! He had been walking back and forth in the area and I was on the shoreline looking for them to wash up. If you look at the picture below, you'll see he's not wearing his glasses! Now, THAT'S what I call an answered prayer!! We also got a little pool time at the splash park at the resort that night and Landon was in heaven! Acting like a total boy; punching the water, sitting on the spouts where it comes out and sticking out his bootie to into the water sprayers! We were cracking up at how much he's changed in the last few months!
Friday, August 15th we loaded up the car to head home, but before leaving town we stopped at the
USS Midway, to tour the ship and see the fighter jets on the flight deck. It was educational not only for Landon, but for us too! We kept telling him GranDaddy had lived on a big ship like the one we were on. But, when he starting calling it a 'shit'...we decided to change it to a "ship-boat". Click the 'x' in the upper righthand corner to see more pictures from the ship!

If you're still reading this, then you probably really love us, because it is more detail than you bargained for. But, hey!! Look at it also as a weeks worth of blogs in one!

We are heading back to work and Pre-School...but, like Landon...already "looking" forward to our next little get-away in late September!
